Welcome all!  This year’s meeting will be held on the ever-expanding and beautiful campus of Kennesaw State University, GA from Friday, November 13 through Sunday, November 15.  The theme of this meeting will be the Walking Dead in homage to the filming of this virally-derived apocalyptic television series filmed here in Georgia.  Wildly popular themes such as this coupled with real yet terrifying cases of devastating human infections or microbial mishandlings have continued to drive ASMs need for discussion and research on how to effectively contain, treat and eradicate these microbial menace.  We also will feature the various disciplines of microbiology including host-microbe interactions, pathogen detection, bioinformatics, novel metabolisms and environmental microbiology.  In addition, we are very excited to welcome Dr. Tara Smith of Kent State University to deliver the ASM Distinguished Lecture on Zombies and Infectious Diseases.

We highly encourage students to participate in our all undergraduate poster session! Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows are encouraged to share their research either in oral or poster presentations.  Awards will be given to the best presentations.  Students can look forward to many opportunities to network and socialize plus friendly competitions.  This year, everyone can look forward to Sunday Brunch in our award-winning dining hall before you journey home, as we recognized our colleagues for their many outstanding contributions to our field.

The organization committee and I sincerely hope to see you at the meeting this fall.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.  Please check back often to see the latest news and updated schedule.

Warmest regards,

Melanie Griffin
